What are Owners Saying About the Professional 9100?
A thorough review of owner comments and ratings has shown the following common likes and dislikes:
PROS
- Easy to operate
- Good for quilting
- Plenty of stitches
- Decorative stitches look good
- Lots of features
- Has start/stop button
CONS
- Doesn’t always handle thicker materials well
- Issues with thread tensioner
- Needles sometimes break
- Sewing light is small and a bit dim
- Some folks struggle with the automatic needle threader
- Reports of several other features not working
Most owners are pleased with the large number of stitches available on the 9100 and, when all is working well, the stitches look pretty good. Also the speed controller and the start/stop button are popular features.
Many folks report that the Singer 9100 is very easy to use and they also like the host of features and accessories that come with the machine. Overall we see many people who are very happy with their purchase but there are also quite a few consumers who are disappointed. These “love it” or “hate it” machines in our opinion are always something of a risk to purchase.
The automatic needle threader is a bit of a mixed bag with some people stating that it really makes threading the needle much easier, and others indicating that it is confusing and hard to use. This is something we often see on sewing machines with this feature.
Despite comments that the decorative stitches look good there are also some complaints that the script stitches aren’t great and that the sizes cannot be changed.
Other common criticisms include issues with the thread tensioner, problems with the buttonhole feature, breaking needles, skipped stitches, the machine getting stuck in reverse, broken feed dogs, etc. To cap it off there are also complaints that Singer Customer Service is hard to contact and that they rarely return calls. We have read of similar frustrations with Singer Customer Service on a number of previous occasions.
