98.4  Like many Janome sewing machines the DC2013 receives very good ratings from owners.  And like most Janome sewing machines it is not cheap, at close to $500.  The DC2013 is intuitive and easy to use but also has many features including 50 stitches selectable via an LED panel.  As a result this machine is suitable for both beginners and the experienced seamstress. It includes a hard carry case, many accessories and carries a 25 year warranty.

The DC2013 replaces last year’s DC2012.  The machines are very similar and one would be hard pressed to find much in the way of differences (besides the color).  We even notice that on the Janome website they post the DC2012 manual for both the DC2012 and the DC2013.

Consumer Insights
A review of owner remarks indicates the following likes and dislikes.

PROS
- quiet operation
- automatic needle threader works well
- even stitches
- sewing area light is bright
- easy stitch selection
- manual is detailed and easy to understand
- includes quite a few accessories
- handles thick fabrics well
- very user friendly

CONS
- expensive
- some fancier stitches are not present

There is an overwhelming number of pros vs cons further supporting the notion that owners are happy having bought this sewing machine.

It is a fairly heavy machine (over 18 lbs) but this isn’t really a pro or con as it depends on your requirements.  Some owners like a heavy, sturdy-feeling sewing machine while others prefer a more lightweight unit that can be easily taken to classes for example.   This probably isn’t the easiest machine to pack up and take to class although you can do it – it’s just a bit heavy.

Most owners feel that the DC2013 is very good for sewing garments and home decor as well as quilting and scrapbooking.   It receives a lot of praise for its ease of use while still garnering comments about its many features.  Consumers feel that this is a machine that one can continue to use as one gains experience – no need to buy another more sophisticated machine as your skills grow.

There are many comments regarding the machine's stitch quality.  Consumers report that they are even, straight, and easy to change (via the LED panel and buttons).   In the course of our research we ran across an informative owner's review on Amazon and it is worth a read.  Check it out here.

We’ve also run into instances where folks were confused when threading the machine.  However there are some solutions provided by owners on Fixya here should you wish to view them.

Hard Case
Hard Case

A carry handle is built into the sewing machine which is helpful as it weighs a hefty 18.2 lbs.  It also includes a hard case (see image to right) and a large number of accessories.  There are several feet: even feed, overedge, blind hem, 1/4” seam, automatic button hole, satin stitch, and zipper.  In addition there is a needle set, bobbins, a seam ripper, lint brush, screwdriver, spool pins, spool stand, spool holders, felt, and a quilter bar.  These accessories store conveniently in a drawer in front of the free arm.  An instruction  manual and power cord, as well as a foot controller also come with the sewing machine.

The DC2013 has a 25 year warranty on defective materials or workmanship.  This does not include electronic component parts or labor.  Electronic component parts are warranted for 5 years and labor is provided for only 1 year.
