Owners comment that this is a great machine for the money. Most folks really like the ease of operation and the ability to import designs using your computer. Consumers find designs on the Internet and download them to their computer then they can import them to the Brother SE-400 to use. The machine is also popular for its automatic needle threader, automatic thread cutter and easy to change presser feet. In addition, it comes with a very wide range of accessories. There is limited on-board storage for the accessories however.
Some people would have preferred a hard carrying case in which to store or carry their SE-400. It comes with a vinyl cover instead. A few comments indicate that the Brother 5300 universal hard carrying case is a good option if one wants to upgrade it goes for about $25. Also the machine has 512kb of memory which only allows a limited number of designs to be stored. Other designs have to remain on your computer or on an external drive (they can be imported at any time). Finally, some people find the 4 x 4 hoop size (embroidery area) limiting as it renders quite a few embroidery designs useless.
