92.0 The Brother Project Runway CE7070PRW Computerized Sewing Machine is a great starter machine but it also comes with enough features and accessories to make it a good fit for those with a little more experience. It has 70 built-in stitches, 7 one-step buttonholes and 7 specialty presser feet, as well as an extension table for larger projects. It’s a fairly lightweight machine that sews smoothly and also isn’t too noisy. However, it does not have a needle up/down feature or a speed control slider, and, like many machines today, it has quite a few plastic parts.

What are Consumers Saying?
The positive consumer comments for the CE7070PRW far outweigh with negative comments. Probably the most common feature highlighted is the unit’s incredible ease of use. Owners can’t say enough about how intuitive and quick to setup and operate this machine is. They also indicate that it is a great fit for those learning to sew. Some call it a “basic sewing machine” while others describe it as “entry-level”.
Many folks feel that they made the right choice in purchasing the CE7070PRW. Popular comments include the likes of “A work horse” “Built to last” “Incredible value” “Great machine” ‘Great price” “Difficult to believe what I got for the price” “Excellent Machine for the price” “Worth every penny”.
People are also pleased at how smooth the machine sews and how easy and quick it is to thread the bobbin. It is relatively quiet and folks like that it is not too heavy. Some move it from place to place in the home while others take it to classes. In addition, it comes with a very respectable 70 built-in stitches.
Despite not being too heavy, the CE7070PRW is still stable when sewing and people really like the included extension table which dramatically increases the work space. The machine also handles heavy materials fairly well and the manual is detailed yet still easy to follow.
All is not perfect with this machine however and there are some owner grumblings. Probably the most contentious issue is the lack of the need up/down button. Several owners highlight this as something they wish the machine had. There is also some disappointment that there is no speed control slider – one really has to rely on the foot controller for this kind of thing.
In addition, some folks struggle a bit with the automatic needle threader, although most find that it becomes easier over time as you learn how it works. There are several comments indicating that the machine is constructed with quite a bit of plastic. There are few reports of things breaking, but rather concerns that many parts (presser foot lever, bobbin plate cover, needle plate cover, etc) are made from plastic and may not stand the test of time.
A few other areas of concern include:
- the built-in LED isn’t as bright as some would like
- the LED control panel is not back-lit
- no proper built-in handle (just a groove/indentation in the machine)

We have found confusion online with respect to some of the controls on this sewing machine. Some sources report that it has sewing speed adjustment and start/stop capability. However, as described in the Brother manual “You can use the foot controller to control the sewing speed and to start and stop sewing”. So, yes you can do this but there is no special start/stop button nor is there a speed control slider.
You may also read that this sewing machine has a handle. Well, it has an indent in the body that makes it easier to pick up. It doesn’t really have a built-in handle at the top that will unfold or anything like that.
The Brother Project Runway CE7070PRW Sewing Machine is fairly lightweight and it comes in at just 13.7 lbs. We’ve seen lighter – for example the machines in our Best Portable Sewing Machines List – but there are many sewing machines that are quite a bit heavier.
