94.0 The Juki TL-2000Qi is a single needle, lock-stitch machine that excels at straight stitching. It has a maximum speed of 1500 stitches per minute and it is great for quilting, dressmaking, tailoring and other projects. It has a large sewing table, a thread trimming foot switch and a presser foot knee lever. It is also sturdy and reliable. However it only has a straight stitch and some folks could find this limiting.

Owners describe this sewing machine as a fast, sturdy, work-horse. Some folks describe it as being close to a commercial machine but with easy-to-use features. It sews quickly and it sews well. There are no reports of breaking thread or skipped stitched. Also, consumer comments indicate that the machine is very reliable and it rarely has to be sent in for repairs.
Not only is the TL-2000Qi fast but it is also powerful. It is capable of sewing through very thick fabric or multiple layers of fabric. There are also reports that it is quite capable of sewing through multiple layers of denim.
There are no fancy stitches however. It makes perfect straight stitches but that’s all you get. In addition, at least one owner feels that the top speed of the machine may be too fast for the beginning sewist (but that it is fantastic for the experienced sewist).
Following is a very short video showing the speed at which this machine can sew:
A number of folks highlight the convenience of both the presser foot knee lever and the foot controlled thread cutter/trimmer (both needle and bobbin threads can be trimmed by pressing the heel portion of the foot controller – there is a button that does this as well). These are features you do not see on most machines (although you do find them on some).
The machine isn’t light but it doesn’t have the weight of a true commercial machine either. It is small and light enough to be portable. We have seen some websites marketing this to the home user as a “semi-industrial” machine. That may be a bit strong but some of the specifications are not typical for most home sewing machines.
Owners also praise the machine’s large working space and it is fairly common to read comments such as: buying this machine is money well spent, it does exactly what it was designed to do, it is worth the price, etc.

As mentioned this is a sturdy machine and it isn’t that light. It weighs in a 25.4 lbs but this is still light enough that it can be moved from place to place and it also comes with a carry handle. Perhaps it isn’t the best candidate for taking to sewing classes however. The machine comes with HA-type needles and it is UL listed. UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories, a non-profit group that undertakes product safety testing and provides certification.
The list of accessories isn’t quite as long as that of some of the other machines we’ve looked at but it is still significant. There are several presser feet that come with the Juki TL-2000Qi including: Even feed foot, standard presser foot, 1/5 inch quilting foot, and a compensating presser foot. You will also find bobbins, needles, a spool cap, screwdrivers, a cleaning brush, and an oiler. The machine also includes the foot control (with thread trimmer), the knee lever, a power cord, an instruction manual, and the extension table.
The manufacturer’s warranty is for 5 years on mechanical defects, 2 year on electrical defects and 90 days on defects in material or workmanship.
The instruction manual can be found here and it is fairly detailed and uses easy-to-understand images.
